A to Z Challenge – 2020 – Queen

We are 3/4 of the way through the A to Z Challenge.  I’m hanging on by a thread…or in my case a glue stick.  “Q” is for Queen and I’m sorry I didn’t get to see them when Freddie Mercury was around but I have seen them twice with Adam Lambert and both shows were excellent.

The first time was in 2017 and then we saw them again last year during the big “Bohemian Rhapsody” explosion.  For the 2017 pictures I chose this paper from Paper Wishes called Paper Painting.  I love the rich colors in these paper collections.  This set even has some tags and embellishments to match.  Bonus, on the Paper Wishes site they give them away as a free download!  Very nice way to get some cool stash.

There’s no way I’m going to be able to scrap all these pictures in time.  The stack is about 1 inch thick!
I found this crown on my Slice Machine design card called “Just Chillin’ Teen.”
I had some old gold foil paper and I think it worked great.  This was a bit of gift wrap paper from the old days when the kids had to sell wrapping paper as a fund raiser.  They used to give a sample swatch of all the different kinds you could buy and I kept them all these years to use in crafting.  That paper is probably 25 years old!
I wanted gold numbers to mark the date but didn’t have them so I used some silver sparkly ones and colored over them with gold marker.  Pleased with that result.
Here’s page one.  I popped some of the flowers from the freebie sheet on foam dots and added a jewel in between the numbers.
And page two.  We stopped at our favorite restaurant, Louisiana Bistro, before the show.  James (the owner) was always very friendly and let me take his picture this time.  Sadly, they closed down shortly after that.  We really miss it!  There was a guy sitting near us who worked with a company called “Date Knight.”  They plan dates for you.  Don’t know if they are still around either but how fitting that it was date (k)night and a Queen concert!
Here’s the setlist from that night.  It was a great show.

People may say that because Freddie Mercury has passed and John Deacon no longer tours that is is a cover band but that offends Brian May and Roger Taylor and is definitely not the case as far as I’m concerned.  Listen to Another One Bites the Dust from that night.

True, Adam Lambert is no Freddie Mercury and he straight up says as much but the joint was still rocking.  That’s “Q” for you.  No quitting here!

Catching up today from my desktop. Most excellent post! Always loved Queen. Loved Adam from the start. His energy is off the charts. No one can replace Freddie. But no one needs to. 2.0 version is on its’ own.

I have a video of one of my kiddos, age 5 singing “We will Rock you” with all the boom boom stomp motions. So dang cute 😉 Queen will never get old!

  4. I had to look to see if Q was going to be Queen…. perfect crown and … no one can replace Freddie, but didn’t he sing something about the show must go on?

  5. They have so many great songs. I’m sure it was a wonderful show. Good luck going through your stack of pictures to find the ones to use for your pages. That is often my problem – I take so many pictures, that picking the ones I want to use can be a challenge.Weekends In Maine

The gold crown is a perfect detail. I like the painted paper, too. I am so glad you saw them, even with Adam Lambert — he’s got one helluva voice! Do listen to his Mad World. Do.

Oh my gosh, Janet. You have seen Queen with Adam Lambert. Have you heard Adam Lambert sing “Mad World?” Exceptionally beautiful. An appropriate song right now. Yes, very fitting “date knight” and “a Queen concert.”🙂

At this point, Erica, I feel really lucky to have seen a lot of the concerts we have because who knows when or if we will ever be able to see shows like that again! By the time the ban is lifted, a lot of the performers that I like may have decided they’re too old to go on – LOL. I have not heard “Mad World” but will give it a listen. Thanks!

  8. You are clearly dedicated to have held on to 25-year old paper, and been able to find it to use. You deserve a crown for that. 🙂

Yes! We saw it in the theater, we own it on DVD and my youngest daughter and I went to a screening of it that they did at our local baseball stadium in honor of the anniversary of it. Great movie!

At some point people realize that the old guy is gone and there’s nothing they can do but learn to appreciate the new guy. I’m happy people saw that Adam was busting his butt to put on a good show.

Yes. He was funny the second time we saw him, he said at the beginning of the show, “Let’s take care of the elephant in the room, I am not Freddie Mercury.” The crowd loved it.

I was wondering who you’d pick for the letter Q. I guessed Queen. I like your gold crown cutout. Clever.
