Blogging From A to Z – 2018 – B is for

Welcome to the letter B in the A to Z Challenge for 2018.

You may not think of baking when you think of Arts and Crafts but Michaels has quite a baking section.  Wilton is one of our main product lines.

Remember those muffin tins I talked about yesterday?  Here they are along with cake pans and cookie trays.

There are all kinds of cake decorating supplies like different tips for applying frosting, decorative cake holders and the containers to carry the finished cake so it doesn’t get wrecked.

If fondant is your thing you can find all different colors.  The big boxes of fondant are unbelievably heavy!  Aren’t they pretty?

There are color coordinated tools galore for measuring and stirring.  There is parchment paper and special molds that you can use for making candy decorations or even shaped ice cubes.

Here are the candies you can melt and pour in the molds.  Side note, my husband used to handle the packaging on similar candies when he worked for Guittard Chocolate.  I used to put them in the freezer and pop a few in my mouth for a snack.  They come in all kinds of colors!

Sprinkles, frosting, writing gels, cupcake liners, it’s all there.

Can’t forget the cookie cutters!  There are usually special ones to coordinate with the holidays too.

Got a princess who wants a castle cake?  Here you go!
Bet my daughter wishes I had gone to Michaels to help me make a castle cake for her birthday!  Actually it looked a lot better in person than it does in the picture and I did let my 5-year-old help decorate it (no, I’m not making excuses)!
My attempt at a castle cake about 15 years ago.
As I mentioned, every holiday gets its own specialty confections.  Here are a couple for Spring and Easter.

Cookies for decorating with frosting included!

So, the next time you need something in the bakery department, check out your local Michaels!  Are you a baker?  Make any fancy cakes lately?

Make sure to stop by and visit some of the other A to Z-ers!  Coming tomorrow, the letter C.

  1. I’ve already learned something in your A-Z, I didn’t know that Michaels’ carried Wilton supplies and I wouldn’t have thought to look for them there! It’s been awhile, but I used to do more baking and it’s so fun to have the necessary tools and supplies to make it fancy! I love the big cupcake pan too… get it all done in one batch! πŸ™‚

I couldn’t believe how big those pans were. I don’t think they’d fit in my oven! Glad I am giving you helpful information. At first I was hesitant, thinking that people would be bored learning about Michaels.

  2. I’m pretty sure Hobby Lobby has a section like that, or used to. I really need to stop in again some time.

I’d never think of going to Micheal’s for cookies supplies. Again I say, who knew?

  5. I’ve bought plenty of bakeware from Michaels and even took a few cake decorating classes there many years ago. When my girls were younger I baked lots of creative birthday cakes with varying levels of success but it was always a lot of fun. This past year my youngest asked me to make a Panda Bear emoji cake and I bought my fondant from Michaels! Weekends In Maine

There’s such a great variety of baking tools there, and just looking at it all makes a person want it all. I took a Wilton cake decorating class (it was at Hobby Lobby though), and it was a lot of fun, and I learned a lot. I still have my whole kit. Thanks for featuring some of what Michael’s has to offer. πŸ˜‰

  8. When I was in my 20s I took cake decorating classes. We learned to make freehand roses with royal icing. It’s a knack but not too hard. Just takes practice. I did a lot of that back then. Now you’re lucky if I bake a cake!

  10. Something occurred to me yesterday after your response… You should go in your local store and let the Manager know what you are doing, possibly they tell the District manager and he tells his stores on a conferance call… they tell their customers about this nice lady who is saying great stuff about their store good for them, and good for you too… you never know hundreds of new followers πŸ™‚ and maybe a discount :). Just a thought… and now I want cupcakes.

  11. I have lots of baking stuff from Michaels. I think my lamb form is from you-all. And my meltable chocolate. I get inspired to bake when I walk those aisles.

Thanks for sharing this. I usually pass those aisles on my way to art supplies so I had no idea than there was so much! Wonderful!
